Our story began with the vision and passion of Jim and Karen Frisinger. Jim had fallen in love. There was something about the winemaking process, the combination of art and science, which kept him coming back for more. So after earning his masters in Viticulture and Oenology from U.C. Davis, Jim and Karen purchased a vacant 20-acre parcel of land in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley in 1981. With hard work and determination, they harvested their first vintage in 1985, allowing them to turn the land into a vineyard estate and family home.
The family produced several vintages of Frisinger chardonnay from the estate’s vineyard in the 1980’s. At this point, Jim turned his focus to enhancing his career at Beringer where he was a viticulturist at the time. Since then, the premium grapes Jim grew at that property have been sold to renowned wineries including Chateau Montelana, Duckhorn and, of course, Beringer.
However, the vision of the family winery was put on hold.
Today, Jim and Karen’s son, Karl Frisinger and his wife Rachel, take great pride in reviving the Frisinger Family winery business. They’ve created a boutique winery that makes premium estate grown wine, and the wine press that appears on their label was on the land in 1981 when their family first purchased the property. It is a representation of the tradition they so greatly value.
Paying homage to the rich land and culture of Napa Valley, visitors are invited to enjoy tasty and memorable experiences with their loved ones. Because family is the foundation of all that we do, we want to welcome you to ours.
Frisinger Family Winery
We invite you to join one of our two wine clubs. We continue to offer our Family and Friends Allocation which consists of three bottles of our Reserve Chardonnay and three bottles of our Cabernet Sauvignon. Our second wine club – Red Wine Allocation – consists of four bottles of our Cabernet Sauvignon and two bottles of a specialty red wine which is currently a Malbec. Both Clubs ship in the Spring and the Fall for a total allocation of 12 bottles per year. To reserve your wine allocation, please visit us at the vineyard or download and return the order form below. We look forward to welcoming you to the family.
Our Chardonnay is produced with grapes grown on the estate and consists of a proprietary blend of clones 76 and 809. It is barrel fermented and aged sur lees for over 18 months in once and twice used French oak barrels. The wine is a bright dandellion yellow with a light butterscotch and toasted almonds aroma. These characteristics carry over to the palate with citrus, apple, pear, and melon notes.
Our Cabernet Sauvignon is from the Oak Knoll District and is aged in new French Oak for 24 months. The cabernet sauvignon has a rich garnet color. An aroma of dried currants and red fruits is softened with a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the dried currant and red fruit notes are complimented with a rich and approachable structure. This wine displays like a well aged Cabernet.
Our Malbec comes from a single vineyard in Oakville and was aged in French Oak barrels for 20 months. The Malbec begins with a rich jammy flavor of boysenberry, blackberry and hint of strawberry and finishes with a hint of pepper and silky tannin structure to balance the fruit.
The 2017 Rosé is a blend of Grenache and Syrah grapes sourced from the warm foothills of El Dorado. This wine has the perfect balance of fruit and acidity. The aromatics and palate burst with strawberry, raspberry, melon and white peach. The finish is balanced with a refreshing acidity that leaves you wanting more. Perfect for Spring and Summer!
